Child Safety at Child's Play ELC

Nothing matters more to us than ensuring the safety of every child in our care.

Every child has the right to feel safe

Our core philosophy, Every Child Matters, shapes everything we do at Child’s Play.

We practice a zero-tolerance policy for behaviours that endanger any child’s safety. We endeavour to act immediately when concerns are raised about a child’s wellbeing.

We’ve published a formal Statement of Commitment to Child Safe Standards, which outlines our obligations and the protections we have in place for child safety.

Our compliance with child safety standards

Our centres are assessed against the National Quality Standard (NQS) across seven areas including children’s health and safety, staffing, and relationships with children. We’re proud that every Child’s Play centre is Meeting or Exceeding each of the NQS quality areas.

We follow the Victorian Child Safe Standards, 11 evidence-based standards covering governance, culture, child empowerment, risk management, and staff conduct. Every Child’s Play centre is audited against these standards quarterly by our designated child safety champion.

Our staff screening process

Before any educator joins our team, they go through:

  • Police checks, no older than six months
  • Working with Children Check (WWCC) and VIT registration, verified before day one and re-checked monthly
  • Regulatory training in National Child Safety and Protecting Children modules.
  • Reference checks with previous employers, focused specifically on their history with children
  • Qualification checks against ACECQA-approved early childhood qualifications
  • Values-based interviews to assess genuine commitment to children’s wellbeing
  • National Workforce Register updated regularly as per regulatory requirements

Once someone becomes part of our team, they’re subject to ongoing training and monitoring. This includes annual training on the Child Safe Standards, quarterly audits, workshops, and learning modules on topics like reportable conduct and National Child Safety Training.

We do not use agency staff. Every educator is a permanent member of our team, because consistency of care is a form of safety.

What we do to keep children safe every day

Here are just a few of the things that ensure child safety at Child’s Play:

  • Our centres feature shared spaces with open sightlines. There’s always more than one set of eyes in the room.
  • We follow educator-to-child ratios set out in Victorian regulations, including 1:4 for children up to 36 months, and 1:11 for children up to and including preschool age.
  • Children at Child’s Play are taught that they have the right to speak up and say ‘no’.
  • Our educators are trained to recognise verbal and non-verbal cures so that every child is heard, regardless of age or communication style.
  • Children’s voices are heard.

How we keep families updated

You are your child’s first protector. We’re here to support that.

Families have access to our OWNA app for daily updates, photos, and direct messaging with educators.

We also have an open-door policy for families. Feel free to check in at drop-off, pick-up, over email, or over the phone. You’ll never be made to feel like you’re asking too much.

What families say about child safety at Child’s Play ELC

Disha Dhawan

Tarneit

We are so grateful to Child’s play Tarneit team for the love, care, and comfort they provide to Yannick. As a parent, nothing matters more than knowing your child is safe, happy, and genuinely loved.

The biggest reassurance for us is seeing how excited Yannick is to go to care every day — that alone speaks volumes. It shows how comfortable, secure, and cared for he feels there.

A heartfelt thank you to Rajwinder, Aisha and Khyati from Room one for being so amazing with him. We truly appreciate their communication, way his routines are followed and how much attention they pay to our requests.

It gives us so much peace of mind and confidence knowing he is in such loving hands.

Thank you

Our 18-month-old is absolutely thriving at Child’s Play! The facilities are clean, modern, and engaging, but it’s the wonderful staff that really makes the difference. They provide a nurturing environment that has helped our little one find their feet and gain so much confidence. It’s a great feeling to drop them off knowing they are in such safe and capable hands.

A special thank you to the wonderful educators — Kazi, Amritha, Neha, Shruthi, and Leela — for their patience, kindness, and dedication. Each of them goes above and beyond to make the children feel comfortable, supported, and happy every day.

Apologies if I’ve missed mentioning anyone else by name — the entire team does an amazing job. We truly appreciate all the hard work and would highly recommend this centre to other families.
