Childcare Centre Torquay

A Family Owned Childcare Centre in Torquay

Child’s Play ELC is in the heart of Torquay, located just off Horseshoe Bend Rd at 1 Pintail Drive and is owned by Sam and Ian Johnson. We understand that choosing a childcare centre is an extensive process as you find the best fit for your family. As parents ourselves we take the time to get to know you, your values and your culture to best support your transition to our centre.

Our purpose-built facility has beautiful large outdoor spaces that reflect the coastal environment around Torquay. The rooms are large and spacious and have the most up to date resources and equipment to further your child’s development. Supported by a play-based curriculum, our team are constantly looking for new experiences and ways to promote a love for learning.

What does it mean to be a family-focused childcare centre?

To be family-focused means we put families first. Our curriculum is structured around our families’ wants, needs and interests and is supported by the local community and environmental activities. We love that we are run by a family for families where every child matters, and we strive for best practice. Our children are the heart of our centre, and we want to ensure they have the best experience possible that sets them up for success in life.

What our parents have to say

"By far the best medium-sized childcare and early learning centre in the area - and I looked at all of them before joining! The staff are well trained, and genuinely put the children first in terms of their social and educational learning. It's been a tough time with covid, etc, but the Childs Play Torquay team have kept us safe and well informed. After almost a year and a half there now, I can honestly say the staff are part of our extended family. The kids love it as much as I do. I totally rate them all the stars and 15/10. Well done to managers, admin, catering and teachers"

Our daily fee includes everything that your child requires for their day. Nappies, sunscreen, meals, milk. Your child will be allocated a locker to keep their belongings in.

Your Centre Managers: Lorna Healy and Tracey Ames

Hi my name is Lorna Healy and I am the Centre Manager at Child’s Play ELC Torquay. I started working in childcare 6 years ago and have loved every minute of my journey. I have worked my way up through the business after starting as an educator and now find myself in the management team that I am very proud of.

I work in this industry because I have always loved children. No day is ever the same and the children are always amazing me on a daily basis. I love the community aspect of the job and I love being around people.

What is something you love?

I love music, you can always find me singing down the hallway and I’ll often sing songs that then get stuck in people’s heads. I also love animals, especially dogs. Right now I am currently waiting on a new Rottweiler puppy. I can’t wait for her to be part of my family

How would you describe Child’s Play ELC?

Like a family. It is a place that you can walk into and feel welcomed and encouraged to be your best. We live by our philosophy: Every Child Matters which is why I love my job and love being part of the Childs Play team.

Hi, my name is Tracey Ames and I have a 14-year-old son Joshua. I am English and having just arrived in Australia a month before COVID graced us with her presence, I still feel very much like the new girl as I haven’t really had the opportunity to explore my new surroundings!

I have lived in many places, starting my journey in London at the ripe old age of 17, where I worked for the Metropolitan Police in what can only be described as a ‘National Security’ role!  I then moved back to the NorthEast of England and began to work in the Department for Work and Pensions and then on to Saudi Arabia where I worked for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, then back to the NorthEast and last port of call Australia… With the passport now full, hopefully we are here for the long haul! 😊

What is something you love?

I have to say I am a bit of a theatre and musicals fan and love to sing, dance and generally when given the opportunity will be on the stage doing whatever is required. I love my son to the moon and stars and back again!

How would you describe Child’s Play ELC?

Child’s Play is vibrant, warming, caring and ‘Every Child really does Matter’. Educators are always striving for the best.  Ensuring training is up to date and personal development is of the utmost importance to Child’s Play.

I love making a difference, helping children to enjoy learning, have the confidence to live the life they want to live and have fun whilst doing so. Seeing the faces of amazement when they learn something new, feel something different or simply share their experiences is heartwarming.  I love my job!
