At every Child’s Play Early Learning Centre, our goal is to provide your child with the best possible start to their educational journey. From the carefully chosen activities that fill their day, to allowing their interests to guide their learning experience, every day at Child’s Play is another laughing, learning, growing, playing, caring day! What are we waiting for, let’s dive in!
Warm welcomes
Each day at Child’s Play begins with warm smiles and enthusiastic greetings from our educators. As children arrive, they are welcomed into a safe and secure environment that feels like an extension of their homes. We’re proudly multicultural, so we greet the little ones in their own language and even read books and stories from different cultures. It really helps them feel more comfortable and at home!
Morning activities
We believe that every child matters, so our day starts with a range of engaging activities designed to stimulate young minds and bodies – and each at their own pace. Our indoor-outdoor program allows children to choose whether they want to spend time inside or outside, which encourages their independence and decision-making skills.
Indoor activities
Our centres are inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, which we authentically incorporate into our curriculum. This means children learn by exploring whatever interests them. Our educators are there to facilitate and encourage each child’s journey.
Inside, children can choose to engage in something creative like painting or drawing, choose to engage with educational toys or immerse themselves in a book. This philosophy emphasises the child’s capacity, curiosity, and potential, encouraging them to explore and create in a rich, stimulating environment.
Outdoor adventures
The children then explore our outside amenities, featuring age appropriate playgrounds, sandpits and other physically engaging activities, which are designed to be both fun and educational.
Focused learning and play
Part of our day is slightly more structured around learning and play, guided by our comprehensive curriculum that blends Reggio Emilia and Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) principles. Our educators take a holistic approach to planning activities, ensuring they cater to the interests and developmental needs of each child, individually.
Every fortnight, our team prepares activities in seven key areas:
Creative arts: Fostering expressionism, innovation and fun!
Science & Technology: Encouraging research, discovery, and exploration!
Child-led routine: Promoting independence, self-reliance, and confidence.
Foundations of Learning: Building literacy, numeracy, and school readiness.
Planning & Design: Focusing on development, construction, and architectural innovation.
Children within Nature: Emphasising flora and fauna, sustainable practices, and renewable resources.
We are the World: Exploring society, diversity, and First Nations perspectives.
Sensory play
In our sensory spaces, children can engage in activities that awaken their senses! Sensory play is super important for our little one’s emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Through sensory play, children start to experience the textures and sensations that different materials offer, helping them to understand each one a little more!
Nutritious meals and socialising
Lunchtime at Child’s Play is not just about eating – it’s a time for children to socialise, develop self-help skills, and enjoy delicious, nutritious meals. Our menu is carefully crafted to ensure that children receive balanced, healthy meals that fuel their growth and development. And of course, every dietary requirement is catered for! Children can sit and eat together, encouraging a sense of community among them.
Creating our curriculum
We’ve got a very specific approach to the way we create and plan our learning activities –
Gather data: We observe and gather information about each child’s interests, family situations, and the community.
Teach with purpose: We constantly analyse and question how we can improve and extend each child’s learning.
Plan & engage: We then create plans that support each child’s routines, interactions, and experiences, as well as seeking input from their parents and carers.
Check progress together: It’s important for us to review their achievements, update progress records, and adapt plans to support your little one’s ongoing development. Parents can access their child’s activities and progress daily through the Child’s Play app.
Reflect & grow interests: We’re always evaluating any changes we make and how they benefit the children and their families. Then we start the process all over again to make sure we’re continually improving on it.
Exploration and learning
The afternoon continues with more exploring and learning, with children having the freedom to choose between indoor and outdoor activities. Our educators are always on hand to guide and support them, ensuring that each child’s learning journey is tailored to their own interests and abilities.
As the day winds down, children have time for quieter activities, reflection, and sharing their experiences – before tidying up and getting ready to do it all again the next day!
