Welcome to Child's Play
ELC Torquay

Introducing childcare to your family

Child’s Play Torquay is a family-run early learning centre that has over 20 years of experience and continues to strive to provide the highest quality childcare services.

We live by the philosophy that every child matters so when your child steps into the facility, they are welcomed every day into the Child’s Play ELC family.

We treasure the ability to educate your child and encourage individuality and independence through discovery and enquiry learning and play.  Additionally, to help with every child’s success, we provide multiple outlets of learning to cater to all children, and this includes outdoor play.

Childcare options

At Child’s Play, we have implemented the Kathy Walker and Reggio Emilia curriculum that encourages play, exploration and contribution from your child. We have four different programs that are aged and progress based:

  • Nursery: For children aged six weeks to 18 months, these rooms are filled with stimulating toys and supporting your child through milestones to be independent such as walking.
  • Toddler: For children aged 18 months to 3 years, these rooms prepare and implement a curriculum similar to your child’s interests.
  • Pre Kindergarten: For children aged 3 to 4 years old, this program encourages your child to contribute their ideas, make friends and introduces social rules such as sharing.
  • Kindergarten: For children aged 4 to 5 years old is a government-approved program that is designed to teach skills needed for school, including social, cognitive, physical and emotional skills.

Health & Hygiene Frequently Asked Questions

We have always maintained a high standard of hygiene in our facilities but alongside government recommendations we have: - Introduced more sanitation stations in the rooms and reception - Provided hand sanitiser for all staff and parents at both reception and the signing area - Reiterated the importance of hand-washing to children in all programs and also displaying posters in crucial areas outlining effective hand-washing. - Have educational discussions and activities with children about hand washing, and covering nose and mouth with a tissue when they cough or sneeze. - Supervise all children in their hand-washing procedure, including before and after meals, after playing outside, going to the toilet and coughing. - Ensured that hard surfaces such as tables, chairs, phones, door handles and open shelving are cleaned with disinfectant wipes. - That the centre is professionally cleaned every night thoroughly

While social distancing is encouraged in the community, we have implemented four new tactics to reduce the potential spread of infection: 1. Progressive meal times and only 4 children on a table at one time 2. In group settings, having designated sitting places and being an arm and legs length away. 3. Having Indoor and Outdoor programs throughout the day 4. Sleep routines being adjusted so that no child is sleep face to face with another child.

We are testing everyone’s temperature as they enter the centre as a suggested practice to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Temperature checking is completed with a contactless forehead thermometer and is one of the most non-invasive ways to identify potential signs of infection. If one of your party members does a temperature, we will ask for the health and safety of yourself and everyone else that you return home and monitor the conditions.
